Syllabus for English Language Arts :

Section 1: Novel Study

• This year in novel study we will be looking at 3 novels as a group, Star Girl, Daniel Story and Crazy Man
• We will also be doing a Literature Circle with five novels. The class will be broken down into different groups; where they will work as an independant group.

Section 2: Creative Writing

• Creative writing is a combination of three different projects
• First will be 750 word essay. Students will learn how to find information, create paragraphs, make an interesting introduction, thought provoking conclusion and not plagirising materials.
• Next is a Magazine
• Finally a Children Story
• There is always a chance of one more essay closer to the end of the year.

Section 3: Mechanics of the English Language

• This is a ongoing thing throughout the year.
• We will be looking at how to read a novel, newspaper, play and a variety of textbooks.
• Also spelling, grammar and dictionary use will fall under this heading.

Marks 

• Daily assignments 50%
• Project assignments 30%
• Final exam 20%

Late assignments will lose 2% a day to a total of 10%. After two weeks the assignment will receive a grade of 0.

Students who fail to complete 3 or more assignments will be expected to complete a major make up project.
